I made a wall hanging with Klosjes...then decided it wasn't big enough. Made some more and got a small brainwave ( scared me for a minute, I was sure I've been brain dead this past week...crosswords took too long to do).
Anyway, I love table runners and table toppers ...sooo....I put the ones I was going to add to the wallhanging together as a table topper. Then went whole hog and added a really scrappy border and there it is in all its glory. Scrap, scrap and more scrappy. I think I like it. Now all I have to do is quilt it. I really don't do well in machine quilting but I would like to get better at it. I may try and do some free motion quilting seeing as how my daughter bought me a free motion foot for my Pfaff. She knows I love to hand quilt but can't keep up with all the projects I have on the go...her solution is that I machine quilt some of them. I won't be able to claim purism if I do...but then, change is good....right??????
You really make like the free motion machine quilting. Trish
ReplyDeleteI really like your table runner. I like the way you did the border - it is very eclectic. I have never been too excited to machine quilt, but I am finding that I like it the more I do it. Working on a small project like this is a great way to get used to it. Can't wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI always hand quilted and loved it, but it takes so long. Besides, I now think machine quilting being done today is just as beautiful as that done by hand. I am not at that point in machine quilting, but I have finally managed to feel comfortable and reasonably in control of the free motion.
ReplyDeleteQuilting around applique is now pretty easy for me and I am also lots more comfortable doing background quilting. Can't do really large pieces, but wall hangings and crib quilt sizes are okay for me now. It took a lot of time but eventually comes, and it's great for things like your table topper. Go for it!! Give it a try - and don't get discouraged. It will come around. :-) Carol
I'm with you there... I hate using the machine too, I feel it is more authentic to do as much by hand as possible in any of the needle crafts... but to tell you truth, I've been thinking about machine quilting too... there's just not enough time in a day to do everything by hand if you want to actually "finish" something... so I say... go for it!
ReplyDeleteShe's right. Free motion is quicker than hand quilting. But it does take practice. I like to machine quilt all my small runners and projects, but there is nothing like a hand quilted bed quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhile I do occasionally machine quilt, it always feels like cheating to me. Your table topper is really cute!
