Gettin' my Patriotism on!

 I certainly don't think this is a pretty quilt...matter of fact I would classify it as one of the ugliest quilts I have ever done.  That being said...it is one of several things I have been doing to celebrate our sesquicentennial (wonder if I spelled that correctly). I bought the panels during my shop hop for row by rows....wish I could have gotten more of the provincial panels although I am delighted to have the two that matter the most to me (Newfoundland and New Brunswick). I really wasn't sure just what I was going to do with them but after a while I realized I had just better do something.

 With a little fudging and measuring this is what I came up with.  I think I will back it with flannel and give it to my Dad for a lap quilt. It's not quite big enough for a queen bed...could fit a single  but what the hey.
 If you're wondering...the fabric at the bottom is that reproduction of newspaper stories from 1867.  That fabric I really like.
 I will probably have it machine quilted since I haven't got a clue how to hand quilt it.

These are placemats...I really don't understand why there were only three of these in a panel.  I would have had to buy two panels to get my four for placemats...as it is, two will do , thank you and the third one helped lengthen the quilt.

I did some free motion on these and realized I was just like a lovely lady in our quilt guild that just cannot do scrap...she co-ordinates her fabrics despite our encouraging her to abandon all order and just "scrap" I, too, have a difficult time abandoning order and 'free motioning'...I'll just keep practising until I get the hand of it.
