This is the Anglican Church in St. Andrews, NB., a beautiful Gothic old church that just happens to be a wonderful showcase for quilts. I had the privilege of being asked to co-judge this show and it was a treat for the eyes. Incredible architecture and fabulous quilts...how great is that!
This beauty was our choice for Best in Show. The piecing was superb, the quilting exceptional and the visual presentation was eye popping. It stood out and surprisingly the other judge and I immediately were drawn to it and agreed right away as to our choice. It is so nice when it happens that way.
This beauty won for Best Applique. This lady's work is exquisite. I wasn't surprised when I found out who made it, I saw her potential a few years back when she first started...some people are born appliquers and she is one.
The same lady that did the above quilt did this Double Wedding Ring which won for Best Quilting...she makes the tiniest stitches...makes me green with envy.
I'm not a big fan of strippys but this one was so well done we just had to give it a ribbon for best piecing. All those little squares are individually pieced and she didn't cut off any tips . This picture does not do it justice...the colours are deep and rich(they are Christmas prints, too)
Ohio Star, although it did not get a ribbon it was given great consideration....no tips cut off, great quilting and we both liked the colour combination....unusual but it worked.
Believe it or not, this quilt was not to be judged....I gave it my "judge's choice" because it blew me away. Those black trips are less than 1/4 inch wide and it is all pieced...no cheating or skimping here. It is a stunning quilt and the second ribbon was from a lady that is synonomous with quilting in Charlotte County...she is asked each quilt show to pick the one that she likes best of all...an honour the local quilters covet.
All in all, this is small quilt show by local quilt show standards but with the beautiful church as a backdrop and lovely quilts to see, it was worth every minute to see. Plus for all those 'wannabe' quilters there is a shop hop that will earn you a 12 inch square pattern with fabric to get you started.
Oh...the quilts are wonderful....
ReplyDeleteOh, I really like all the ones you showed. That strippy quilt really looks nice. Thanks for showing us.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Quoddy Show too Gail, and loved the peaceful venue. My husband even won a prize from the draw, first time for everything, and so nice of him to come and be "positively reinforced" that way. Thanks ladies!!
