Getting There

I've been plugging away at the Twelve Days of Christmas for a while now and today I finished the last applique square. I put them all together and here's the result.  I have to put another border of the red(the one around the pear tree) and then another border to finish, plus some embellishments(rings and such).  I bought some fabric while at Quilty Pleasures in Ottawa. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one I wanted for the outside border. When I have it all together, I'll post the finished top for you to see.
This little top is called Little Twister. I bought the template ( pictured below) at Quilt Canada after watching a demonstration of the technique.  Soooo simple and so effective.  I used a charm pack and some background fabric.  Took me only an hour or so and this was all done and ready for some quilting.  I am going to use this as a table topper and maybe this fall I'll make a bed size quilt...
This is the template...it is an acrylic cutting square. The lines drawn on it look askew but they are actually intersecting on the centre of the square.  That centre is aligned with the corners and seam lines  of the joined four patches and then cut out to form the 'twister'....I actually had fun trying it. It worked up quickly and I can see it using all my (multiplying and having many more while I am not looking) scraps.  I love learning new things in quilting and there are so many talented , clever women (and the occasional man) out there that just fill me with awe at how innovative they are.
