Believe it, or not, I learned to sew on this machine. It was my great, great grandmother's. She brought it over to Newfoundland with her from Scotland...many, many years ago. My Mom inherited it and she had it just sitting there in the basement until I found it and decided that I wanted to learn how to sew. Being the ambitious twit I was at 14years of age...I wanted a granny gown(hippy days, remember). The dress had a Peter Pan collar, an empire waiste, long puffed sleeves and cuffs and a zipper in the back. I followed the pattern to the letter . Lo and behold the darn thing fit me perfectly. I was so proud and the best of all, I was the first girl in my town to wear a granny gown. I think I wore it only once and cast it aside...bell bottoms had come in. I still have the machine and it still works like a top...straight ahead and turn the wheel and it sews backwards...a marvel of machinery.
This is what is on my design wall. I can never remember the pattern name . I found it in Quiltmaker a while ago and decided it was the perfect pattern to use up some fabric that I bought way too many years ago and never used. I'll back it with fleece, machine quilt it and it will be a good quilt to donate to Transition House . Nice and bright and cheerful.
Here's the Double Dresden plate I've been working on. This is the one that I put together to work on while travelling and really didn't get any done. I put one square together in two evenings of watching movies or reruns on t.v. If you are wondering about the spaces in the corners of the squares , that is where I will be putting small plates. I plan on adding a wide border and do some appliquing(my passion) just to snazz it up. It will be a single quilt as I want one to cover me only when the nights get cold. DH is furnace hot and does not appreciate extra quilts in winter and I don't like the heaviness of a folded quilt...geez, do I sound fussy or what!
Faith wondered what the heck was going on outside . As you see in the next picture, Tigger is on high alert. A bird...A BIRD! and that's usually how it goes with Tigger. Anything that moves is worthy of excitement. We're hoping someday she will grow up and be as calm and placid as Faith but guess what is happening. Faith is taking on some of Tigger's silliness. We have so much fun watching these two behave like loons.
