Ribbons are nice!

I entered three quilts in the Kennebecasis Valley quilt Show this year....two large quilts and one baby quilt....all for sale.   Baby quilt sold...which meant I had to take DH out to supper...that's the rule...I sell a quilt, he gets to eat out....a fair deal if you ask me.  Anyway...this is Baltimore Bouquet, which you have seen before and it won 1st place in Large Traditional.  I'm pleased ...ribbons are nice..it means someone likes it...however, the judges comments were what interested me....one judge wondered why the white inner border was so large...I guess the space that I left to do some intricate quilting didn't qualify as the 'right' thing to do. It's something I particularly like to do....hand quilt and have a space designated for just that...regardless of the rest of the quilt.  Especially appliqued quilts.  Brings home how subjective judging is...

Now , this one, you've also seen before it is my Starburst ...the scrappy that I did by hand...piecing and quilting...it won 2 nd place in Large Traditional...that was a surprise  for me...since it was made in the beginning merely for a non-white quilt to put on my bed...one that would not show evidence of the dogs' existences quite so much...and again the comments were 'very square' and 'very scrappy'.....makes you wonder if they were getting very tired by the time it came to judging this one.  I like square quilts with no head or bottom...so I can turn the quilt any which way and not be concerned if it is turned the correct way...just a quirk of mine.  Sad to say the quilt ribbon  that I truly covet is "people's Choice"....that one says  regardless of the judge's subjectivity or objectivity...a lot of people like it......I did not win that one.
This quilt AND the one showing on the right of it were the two that whispered in my ear....'make me, make me' one scrappy and one colour coordinated.   I'm looking for another hand project and I think I may have found it on pinterest...it's traditional with a tweak to it.....just up my alley....
Here's the people's choice award winner...isn't it stunning!  It also won a ribbon for "Best use of the Theme" which was Log Cabin Revisited. the quilt on the right belongs to the Sussex Vale Quilter's Guild...and it , too , won a ribbon for "Best Group quilt".

I really enjoyed their show this year...they had a lot of antiques scattered around the venue...very fitting even though most of the quilts were very modern.  Made you think about what the quilts were originally intended for.  Now to work on the quilt show our guild puts on every two years....only one year to go and you know there's never enough time.....

Well done. Have fun with your next project. Perhaps it will turn out to be People's Choice.

Congratulations, Gail. Your ribbons are well deserved - both of those quilts are wonderful!
